Studio Maarten Kolk & Guust Kusters is based in Eindhoven, the duo merged their design studios in 2008 and have since worked together not only in the design field, but also as curators and research designers.
Many of their works seem fragile in aesthetic, but what lies beneath an often withering or weathering surface is a long proces of research. I love how they bring together nature and culture in each and every object they make. They don’t shy away from old crafts and handmade materials but they handle them from a novel perspective. In their work they manage to create a bridge between research and object an it’s exactly that fine balance between two worlds that is embedded in most of their endeavours: handmade and produced, nature and culture, decay and durability.
