Looking for the Perfect Wood Dining Table?

Choosing a new dining table is an exciting yet sometimes challenging task. It's not just about what you find beautiful but also about practical considerations. When purchasing a premium wooden dining table, there are some key aspects to consider. We've outlined the most significant ones for your convenience.
  • Dining Table Shapes

The shape of your dining table can transform the entire look of your space. There are numerous options, but let's focus on two: round/oval tables and rectangular/square tables.

A round or oval table like the Brix Table, Collector Round Dining Table or Sputnik Table are perfect for smaller spaces. A round table encourages interaction, and adds a unique aesthetic. It's also child-friendly with no sharp corners. But be aware that there's less space on the tabletop, and they don't always fit well against a straight wall.

Rectangular and square tables offer more flexibility in layout and are suitable for placement against straight walls. They have more space on the tabletop but can create some distance between diners, especially in longer tables. When space permits, a longer table offers the advantage of becoming a standout focal point like the Treste Table, Altar Table or Meso Nero Table.

    Table Dimensions

The size of your table is crucial. Measure your available space carefully and think about the number of people who will be sitting at the table. Consider an extendable table if space is limited but you still want to accommodate guests. For height we recommend the average of 74-79 cm.

One of the reasons we love to work with Heerenhuis is that they can make their tables made to measure with very reasonable production times. For the standard sizes, the delivery time is about 2-3 weeks, for the made to measure tables the delivery time is about 6-8 weeks.

    Table Base

Not only is the tabletop important, but so is the base. Choose a central base for a spacious look, base legs on each corner for stability, or X-shaped legs for a unique look. We love the interesting table base of the Kombinat Table which gives a geometric and brutalist feeling. Don't forget about height, which should match your chairs and the height of the people at the table.

  • Material

When it comes to selecting the ideal wood for your furniture or decor, the options are as diverse as they are captivating. Let's delve a bit deeper into some of these remarkable wood choices:

    Walnut Wood

For a touch of opulence and timeless elegance, walnut wood is the quintessential choice. With its deep, luxurious tones and intricate grain patterns, it instantly adds a sense of sophistication to any space. A great example is the Lars Zech Table which is handmade from Italian Walnut.

    Oak

Oak is synonymous with strength and longevity. Its durability makes it a classic option for furniture designed to withstand the test of time, like the sturdy Trappist Table and the Bok Dining Table Oak. Its warm and inviting appearance imbues a room with a sense of traditional charm, creating an inviting atmosphere. Oak's versatility as a base for varnish finishes allows for customization in various colors, such as the Bok Dining Table Brown Oak and Bok Dining Table Black Oak by Ethnicraft. This combination of durability and aesthetic flexibility makes oak an excellent choice for timeless and adaptable furniture.

    Frake Wood

Frake wood introduces a touch of uniqueness and exotic allure. Known for its light color and distinctive grain patterns, it brings a sense of individuality to your surroundings. Frake wood has the power to instill a modern, rustic, or eclectic ambiance, offering versatility and an element of intrigue. It is also very suitable for outside use like the Louza Outdoor Table or the Mesa Nero Outdoor Table.

    Teak Wood

Teak wood is highly favored for tables due to its natural beauty, durability, and strength. Its rich, golden-brown color and unique grain pattern enhance its aesthetic appeal. Teak's natural oils protect it from moisture and pests, reducing maintenance needs. The wood ages gracefully, developing a sought-after silvery-gray patina. With proper care, teak tables can last for generations, making them a timeless and sustainable choice. Ethnicraft offers a wide selection of FSC certified tables including the Bok Dining Table Teak and Bok Dining Table Teak Brown.

  • Complementary Dining Chairs

Finally, a dining table needs chairs that complement both the table and your interior. Consider the number of chairs and whether you want chairs with or without armrests. Ensure they are comfortable for the table's height and fit well with the table base. Great pieces with little maintenance are the Harbour Dining Chair - Dark Oak /Dakar and the Missing Chair Walnut. More comfortable and cozy options are the Upholstered Harbour Dining Chair in Oak/Bouclé and the Covent Club Chair by Audo Copenhagen.

Lastly, we are particularly fond of Ethnicraft's multifunctional Osso Stool. These stools not only provide additional seating when required but also serve various other purposes when not in use.
