Discover our favorite Ethnicraft Dining Table Collections: The Bok and The PI Collection

The Bok vs. PI Dining Table

Ethnicraft offers two stunning table collections: the Bok and the PI collection. Both dining tables are designed by Alain van Havre, Ethnicraft's in-house chief designer. These tables are among our absolute favorites from their collection. Here is our guide to help you choose between these beautiful dining tables and the various available materials.

The Bok dining table is available in various wood types, including:

oiled oak
black varnished oak
brown varnished oak
untreated teak
brown varnished teak

The Pi dining table, can be ordered manually and is available in:

• oiled oak
• brown varnished teak

All teak dining tables from Ethnicraft are made from FSC-certified solid teak wood. Brown Teak is treated with a varnish layer for a browner color.

Finishes & Maintenance

The differences in maintenance between varnish, hardwax oil, and untreated teak are significant. Here are the characteristics and maintenance aspects of each:

Varnish

Varnished wooden dining tables are finished with a protective coating. This finish gives the wooden dining table its desired colour and offers protection against stains, though even with this extensive treatment, spills should be removed immediately. Varnished dining tables are generally easy to clean and maintain. Regular dusting and cleaning with a mild waterbased cleanser are often sufficient.

Hardwax Oil

Hardwax oil penetrates deep into the wood of the dining table, forming a protective layer on the surface while preserving the natural look of the wood. Regular maintenance of the dining table with specific hardwax oil products is necessary. This may involve refreshing the oil and addressing any wear. Hardwax oil also allows for local repairs without treating the entire surface of the wooden dining table. We recommend Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner (3029).

Untreated Teak

Ethnicraft's teak dining tables range comes without any finish or protective treatment. The wood of the dining table is merely polished, allowing the natural oils to rise to the surface. The high density of teak has the advantage that stains do not penetrate the wood as easily. Even with these characteristics, spills should be removed immediately from the dining table. To protect the wood from the start, apply a protective coating. We recommend Occulto Oil (9911). This will seal the pores of the timber and create a natural protection.

Dining Table Dimensions

Both dining table collections have a standard comfortable height of 76 cm, which is essential for overall comfort. The different widths and lengths range from 140 to 240 cm long.

An average dining chair has a width between 46 and 59 centimeters. Based on this, you can choose different setups for your table. For example, using the matching Bok chair with a width of 50 centimeters, you can arrange the dining table accordingly. Allow about 60 cm per person.

• Table of 140 x 90 cm: Suitable for approximately 2-4 people.
• Table of 160 x 90 cm: Suitable for approximately 4-6 people.
• Table of 180 x 90 cm: Suitable for approximately 6-8 people.
• Table of 200 x 100 cm: Suitable for approximately 8-10 people.
• Table of 220 x 100 cm: Suitable for approximately 10-12 people.
• Table of 240 x 100 cm: Suitable for approximately 10-12 people (depending on chair arrangement).
