The Work of Bernard-Albin Gras
To understand the history of DCW éditions, we need to go back to a design icon who played a significant role in the twentieth century: Bernard-Albin Gras. Gras was one of the most innovative designers of his time, as evidenced by the series of lamps he introduced in 1921. These lamps featured functional forms with stunning details like hooks, arms, and bases. This collection was named 'Gras' and was greatly admired by the French architect Le Corbusier. He not only used Gras lamps in his own offices but also incorporated them into his projects worldwide. Le Corbusier was not the only one impressed by the Gras lamps; Robert Mallet-Stevens, Eileen Gray, and Sonia Delaunay also utilised Gras lamps in their projects and studios. For the first time in history, a lamp became equally popular in both the commercial and personal markets.
DCW éditions Takes Over Production
In 2008, the lamps designed by Bernard-Albin Gras were reintroduced into production by the French company DCW éditions. This collection was named La Lampe Gras and became a resounding success. DCW éditions has since released more than forty models, ranging from pendant lamps to table lamps and from floor lamps to wall lamps. Currently, we have only the N201 and the N214 in our assortment, but we can order all models for you.
