Led by Ay Lin Heinen, Nelson Sepulveda, and Mark Eden Schooley, Ay illuminate is a unique lighting and accessories brand. While all three are designers for the brand, they each have distinct roles: Ay as the entrepreneur, Nelson as the stylist, and Mark as the photographer. Interestingly, the brand's name isn't derived from its founder; instead, 'Ay' is the Chinese word for love, offering a dual interpretation of 'Ay illuminate' as 'love for light' (Chinese) and 'I illuminate' (English, phonetically). This multicultural and talented trio, with Chilean Nelson's background as a former art director and American Mark's experience as a photographer for publications like ELLE Decoration, met at the Maison et Objet trade fair in 2008, resulting in a remarkable collection.

Natural Materials & Social Impact

Ay illuminate's unique approach involves repurposing natural materials in their designs, inspired by local craftsmanship and resources from regions like Africa, Asia, and South America. This creative process results in a stunning collection of lamps and accessories made from indigenous materials like cotton, sisal, and silk. Ay illuminate's strategy has led to global success, with their diverse collections showcased at international design expos including Bagobo, Koro, and Hozuki, and at international design fairs like Maison et Objet trade fair. This way they support local artisans and improve living conditions, especially for women in African communities.
