Bernard Schottlander created the Mantis in 1951, intrigued and inspired by the works of Alexander Calder. He devised a series of counterweights, combined with strong and flexible metal bars made from aluminum using spinning and chasing techniques known to metalworkers. The lamp is a poetic eternal duel between balance and imbalance, appearing to defy the laws of gravity.
